Do You ever walk into a crowded room and get anxious? Do you get scared of speaking to small or large groups? Are you afraid of meeting new people? Do you feel like you have a lot to add to a discussion but hold back because you are afraid of what others will think of you? Are you secretly petrified in a worship service to express yourself to the depths of your heart that your King deserves? Is Fear holding you back from pursuing all that Jesus has paid for you to Have?
Jacob told His son Joseph about the promise God Gave Him in Genesis 48:3 that He would Bless him and give him the land of Canaan (the promise land). We know that Israel as a nation and a people were captives and slaves in Egypt for 430 years. God rose up Moses to deliver His people out of Egypt.
Think of the generations of learning and molding into the customs and culture of the Egyptian people. I believe they still believed in the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. I also believe that they had an understanding of what God was like according to how they saw the Egyptians interacted with their Gods. What do I mean? Idol worship began to make sense to them. It is what they saw for 430 years while in captivity. If generation after generation were slaves, I believe you would begin to think like slaves, act like slaves, and even become some what adapted and comfortable in that role.
God wanted a relationship with each individual of the people of Israel. They basically told moses that they were too frightened of God to encounter Him individually, so they sent Moses up on the mountain to speak to God on our behalf. I find it interesting that because they were slaves for 430 years, following rules and regulations, knowing what was expected of them, that they would rather follow a bunch of rules and regulations from God than to interact and relate to Him for themselves.
God did not want to give them this awful type of covenant (Vassal). He preferred to be in a Grant covenant with them. In a Grant Covenant the Greater takes on all of the obligations to fulfill the covenant. In a Vassal Covenant the lesser becomes slave to the Greater party in the covenant, and must fulfill all the obligations of the covenant. If you want to know more about different types of covenants I recommend the Book, “Understanding the Whole Bible”, by Dr. Jonathan Welton.
Later on in this epic story when it was time to go into the promise land in Numbers 13NKJV:
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Send men to spy out the children of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a leader among them.”
3 So moses sent them from the Wilderness of Paran according to the command of the Lord, all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel…………….(Genealogies)…………….
17 Then Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, “Go up this way into the South, and go up the mountains, 18 and see what the land is like; whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, few or many; 19 whether the land they dwell in is good or bad; whether the cities they inhabit are like camps or strongholds; 20 whether the land is rich or poor; and whether there are forests there or not. Be of good courage. and bring some of the fruit of the land.”
They went to spy out the land and basically told Moses that the land was awesome. The only problem was there were Giants living in the land. One of the spies, Caleb, told Moses that they could take the Land.
30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are able to overcome it.”
However the rest of the spies did not see things the way that Caleb saw them.
31 But the men who had gone up with him said,”We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” 32 And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “ The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. 33 There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
I guess perspective here is the key. You have two mentalities at play here. You have Caleb’s mentality, we can take the land and should want to because it is abundant, and fruitful and full of promise, and God said He was giving it to us any way. Then you have the perspective of the other spies who were still in there own mind slaves, and would have rather gone back to Egypt, they saw nothing but defeat.
The point I am trying to make with this passage is that a lot of times we can allow our past to prophesy over our future. Many of us have pretty sketchy pasts. When we accepted Jesus we accepted a Grant Covenant. We need to understand just because something happened in our past or maybe we have been in bondage to so many things, that voice does not get to dictate our future. We certainly can learn valuable lessons from our past, but this doesn’t mean it gets to predict our future.
What do you see when you look into the future? When you look at things do you see opportunity, or do you see Promise. When Jesus destroyed the enemy on the cross, he made abundance available to you. Are there going to be setbacks? Yes. Are there going to be Giants? Yes. Does that mean it does not belong to you? NO! Partner with Holy Ghost today and take hold of what God has already promised you!
Neural Pathway of Slavery
What is a Neural Pathway? A neural pathway connects one part of the nervous system with another via a bundle of axons, the long fibers of neurons (nerve cells).
Have you ever been driving you car on a route that you are common with, on the way to work or school etc., you pull into your destination and think to yourself, “I do not remember stopping at a particular stop sign or turning.” I think we have all done this. So what happened? How did you get to your destination without killing yourself or some one else? I will tell you. Your subconscious was driving, while your conscious mind was some where else! Maybe you were talking on a cellphone or listening to sports talk radio, or maybe daydreaming about being wealthy one day.
How does this happen? Overtime you are constantly training your brain, whether you realize it or not. One of the first responses we have as babies is smiling, why? Almost every baby I see I smile at. Overtime, the thousands of smiles a baby receives is being programmed in the brain. There are pathways being created that tell the baby to smile when they see a smiling face. These cells are rightfully called mirror neurons.
The same thing happens when we drive in our car, walk down a familiar hallway, or take a shower. We do not have to consciously think, “Turn here, bend there, wash hair”. We have trained our subconscious to do this for us.
This can happen in the brain on a much larger scale. If you have been in pentecostal, or charismatic circles long enough you will here the term, “Generational Curse”. Now imagine being enslaved for 430 years. Imagine the amount of training that took place in the subconsciouses of the Israelites. The generation that was set free from Egypt new no other reality than being a slave. They new how to position their hearts as slaves, to talk like slaves, and to give up like slaves. They were a defeated broken people.
Now think about when the spies were sent to spy out the promise land. What perspective or filter do you think they were looking at it with? Were they looking at it and thinking of how free they would be there? Were they thinking of how they could raise the next generation there, and all of the fond memories they were going to make? NO!
When you only know one way of existing, it is hard to change the pathways in your brain to think a different way. Imagine growing up being taught to be fearful. Now try to change that. In the rest of this book we are going to teach you some steps to hopefully set you on a path of Freedom when it comes to Fear.
Setting yourself up for success
I believe that our Father in heaven sets us up for success and not failure. That being said, I think that He will also bring us to impossible situations at times. That all sounds schizophrenic, but the way heaven looks at our situations is not the same way that we look at them. When we walk up to a intimidating sea, with waves crashing on the shores of our lives, and an army of enemies chasing us with intent to destroy us and our destiny, we may freak out, God however laughs. Laughs!? Thats right He laughs.
Psalm 2:1-4 Good News Translation
“From His throne in heaven the Lord laughs and mocks their feeble plans.”
Your Father is not intimidated by the things that you are. He doesn’t see impossibilities but opportunities. In order to think like Him you must first come to an understanding that you are fully redeemed, reconciled, and restored. What does that have to do with seeing and thinking from His perspective? Everything.
Ephesians 1:7 (Redemption)
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace
2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (Reconciliation)
“All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 (Restoration)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Did you know that when did what He did you became a brand new creature? Part of your inheritance, is that you get the mind of Christ. We can no longer afford to operate with the mindsets on the other side of the cross. We should be operating and seeing everything the was Jesus sees things. This includes our “minds eye”. Did you know meditation and contemplation actually do not belong to the new age? These are very biblical. Did you know that by design you are always meditating? You are designed by God to be a creature of meditation. Everything you see was someones thought at one time…..EVERYTHING. The chair you are sitting in, the trees, the carpet, the buildings, the cars the clothes, these were all someones thoughts before they actually manifested in the physical realm. Before you could eat breakfast you probably pictured yourself eating breakfast. This is just the reality of having the mind of Jesus Christ. Having his mind is a high responsibility, because there is a power to create draw from and attract from the spirit realm to the earthly realm.
Jesus prayed, “Thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.” Do you think the Son of God will not get what He prays for? Since He only says what He hears the Father say it is impossible for Him to pray against the will of our Father.
1 John 5:14
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
We have been called to be partakers of the divine nature according to the bible. We are co-laborers with Jesus on this side of the cross. When we align our thought with His nothing will be impossible. There was a season of church history when the thought of some one saying, “God Said…”, was almost labeled as heresy or at least you would loose credibility with people, and they wouldn’t listen to what you had to say. How ridiculous is it to say we have a relationship with some one and you can not even hear them? I bet if you are up against it you will want to hear His sweet powerful voice speak into your situation!
Part of having the mind of Christ is coming into a place, through process, that we learn to take every thought captive. I hope you are beginning to see the importance of your thought life by now. If you believe you are a sinner you will sin by faith. The bible says, “As a man thinks, so is he.” One book I recommend on this topic that changed my life forever is the book, “Spirit Wars” by Kris Valloton, he is one of the Senior Pastors at Bethel Church in Redding California, and a Prophet to the nations.
Take time to answer and meditate on the following questions.
- When I think about moving into something or some place that God wants to give me do I see the obstacles or the opportunity?
- What have I trained my subconscious to react in fear instead of faith?
- Does it scare me to try new things?
- What scares me in my life that God wants me to take for His kingdom?
- Does fear control me from making decisions and/or taking risk in my life.
- What do I spend (Thinking) meditating on throughout the day?
- What are the things that I meditate on creating in the physical realm for me? Fear or Freedom?
