Many of us will be taking communion at some point during Easter weekend. One of the many scriptures you may hear about communion is found in John 6:53:

Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life you…”

I think a lot of believers are eating and drinking themselves, instead of Jesus, let me explain. When Jesus was saying this what I believe He was saying is for His followers to eat and drink from all He accomplished. When we take communion we are taught to examine ourselves, which is always a good idea but I believe we are to do this in remembrance of Him, not in remembrance of us.

So many times we get caught up in our worthiness all the while taking our eyes off of the one who makes us worthy in the first place. Another scripture that I love on this topic is John 6:56:

“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, an I in them.”

Now that is a bold statement here by Jesus! Taking communion is a prophetic act of what we are to do daily as believers. We are called by the King to eat and drink from His efforts and stop drinking and eating from our own, or lack thereof. We get so caught up as believers in our performance we forget half the time to celebrate the performance of Jesus Christ.

You do not add one iota to your salvation. If you think you do, there is a term for that, it is called self-righteousness. I encourage you today to let go this weekend, and any other time you take communion, and take your communion with a spirit of celebration instead of somberness. Joy is a fruit of the Holy Ghost after all.

When you chew his flesh think about how it was the Joy set before Him that He endured the cross, you are that Joy. His face was so locked into you that this cause almost possessed Him.

There wasn’t a demon in Hell that was going to stop His union with You!

When you tip back that cup of blood, receive the intoxicating Love of the father, and drink in this Heavenly scandal of grace. It is absolutely party time in the Kingdom. If you are reading this and do not currently follow Jesus I would encourage you to stop chasing you own tale, and get on this Glory train, you are missing the party of a lifetime!

Happy Easter!
